The Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture, founded in Karachi in 1990, runs its undergraduate, graduate and continuing-education intake through this pair of systems: a WordPress site covering programmes, campus life, alumni and news, and a separate Laravel admissions portal that handles the actual applications.
The admissions portal walks applicants through a multi-step application — personal details, academic history, programme selection and document uploads — with validation at every step and session-backed progress so a half-finished application survives a dropped connection. The public site runs on WP Engine behind Cloudflare and carries the school's full academic and events content.
Admissions is a spiky workload: quiet for ten months, then thousands of applicants inside a few weeks, most of them on low-end phones over patchy mobile data. Both systems were built and supported for that shape rather than for an average day.

My role
Frontend developer on the admissions portal and the public site.
- Built the multi-step application UI, validation and upload flows
- Integrated the frontend against the Laravel admissions backend
- Built responsive templates targeted at low-end devices and slow connections
- Supported the portal live through the high-traffic admission window
Challenges & solutions
Ten quiet months, then everything at once. The portal's real test is a few weeks a year. Keeping per-step state server-side and each step's payload small meant applicants on weak connections could finish rather than restart.
Document uploads from phone cameras. Applicants submit photographed transcripts, which arrive large and inconsistently oriented. Client-side constraints and clear rejection messaging stopped failed uploads from becoming failed applications.
